Vance was born into a horse family. He started riding a miniature horse at a very young age and never looked back. He was lucky enough to get a wonderful pony at age 10 that solidified the interest in eventing. After several successful years with the wonder pony Vance needed a horse that was larger. His initial horse was a large irish sport horse that ended up having a bucking problem. This did not deter Vance as a friend let him ride another large horse, a draft TB cross at preliminary. Phase Two also showed Vance how fun cross country could be just like his pony used to at the lower levels. Then The Hoodlum and Riva Ridge Runs came along and he was set. After high school at Hawken School in Ohio, Vance studied and graduated from the University of South Florida (in Tampa) with a business management degree. Since high school Vance has been training, competing, and selling event horses. To date Vance has competed advanced and completed a CCI** with two different horses. He has started numerous babies as well.
Victoria is married to David Frey who evented back "in the old days" at the advanced level and even worked with the team. However, Victoria has had an interest in horses since she was very young. She started with a pony and had numerous horses before she came along Phase Dance. Phase Dance was a wonderful horse for her and she was able to compete Advanced with her. She had many other successful horses and even trained a small athletic TB mare enough dressage to compete at the Grand Prix level. Victoria remains an avid competitor in between the time she spends teaching and training. She is optimistic that some of her current horses will be able to compete at the top levels of eventing.
